The Alberta Rockies are the gemstones of Canada, at least that's what the locals say, but the only way to decide for sure is to come and see them for yourself!
Touring by bike offers unobstructed views of this spectacular landscape and we are confident that the terrain is inviting for every level of rider as the roads go around and not over the mountains. Expect the grades to be 3-6% and we will accommodate every level of rider with varying distances and ride support. Come and be awed by big skies, grand mountains, and water in more shades of blue than you can imagine! |
ARRIVAL DAY
Details: The Cycling Centre team will greet you at the Calgary airport and transport you to Azuridge, a quaint hotel in the stillness of the foothills, offering a glimpse of the beautiful landscapes you'll be cycling through this week.
If you arrive early in the day enjoy a round of golf, exploring on horseback, pampering at the spa, or sitting on the terrace letting the quiet forested landscape and clean air calm your soul. Bikes will be assembled with the help of the Cycling Centre team or should you chose to rent one we will enjoy an easy hour spin to ensure everything is working properly before a dinner of deluxe burgers and beers on the gazebo, the perfect place to mingle and meet new friends! |
DAY TWO: CALGARY TO LONGVIEW
Ride Description: We will begin as a group today as we ride the Cowboy Trail to Longview. Those wanting to test out their climbing legs can choose to do an out-and-back segment to Elbow Falls. Our day will be full of big sky views, prairie beauty and we might even see a cow or two! Be sure to stop in Black Diamond along the way to take a sip at Marv's Classic Soda Shop, tap in to Hard Knox Brewery, or find a treasure at one of the stores like Bohemia.
Details: We will hitch our two wheeled steeds at the Twin Cities hotel in Longview. Built in 1938 during the oil boom, the character of this hotel will transport you back to the cowboy days and offer lots of conversation starters over dinner. |
DAY THREE: LONGVIEW TO KANANASKIS
Ride description: This route might look long, but remember you have all day, or as much of the day as you like, to ride it. Stop to catch your breath when you need to as the mountain beauty will be captivating and majestic. We will ride over Highwood Pass, the highest paved road in Canada, but at 6% incline everyone is capable of tackling this climb regardless of fitness level.
Details: Kananaskis Village will be a welcome site tonight as we nestle in for a stay in the clean mountain air. Optional activities include a hike, relaxing at the Nordic Spa, horseback riding, or quiet time on a patio to take in the grandnest of the surrounding vistas. |
DAY FOUR: KANANASKIS TO CANMORE
Ride Description: Today is a shorter day providing many options for the afternoon. Enjoy a mostly downhill ride in to the town of Canmore with a free afternoon to shop, hike, mountain bike, or people watch from a patio. Looking for more road biking challenges? Consider riding up the north side of Highwood Pass before continuing in to Canmore and tackling the climb up to Silvertip Golf Course, it will get your legs and lungs pumping with double digit inclines.
Details: Canmore is peppered with local watering holes, enjoy a patio as a reward for a job well done before checking in to the Basecamp hotel for the next 2 nights. Oh! Did we mention there is a hot tub?! |
DAY FIVE: CANMORE TO LAKE LOUISE TO CANMORE
Ride Description: This may be the most beautiful ride you do in the world. The day begins with relaxed joy as we ride the bike path from Canmore to Banff. From there we roll on to the Bow Valley Parkway where a bit more attention will be needed as it's common to see wildlife. The ride will end at Chateau Lake Louise and its iconic brilliant blue lake. Those doing the shorter option can choose to ride from Canmore to Lake Louise or from Lake Louise to Canmore with a shuttle ride.
Details: Expect this ride to take up most of your day as it will be impossible to not stop and take pictures. |
DAY SIX: CANMORE TO CALGARY
Day Description: Today's options are to ride or drive to Calgary depending on your departure plans. Should you choose to fly out today we will drive you to the airport; otherwise enjoy a ride back in to the foothills and the prairies where we will say our goodbyes at the airport hotel.
Details: If you plan to ride today please book your travel plans for July 31, or later, as we can't guarantee a time to arrive in to Calgary by bike.
