ABOUT
For as long as I can remember, before I became coach Petrina, I have wanted to ride across Canada. I fell in love with cycling as a 7 year old watching the Tour de France, entranced with the stunning and diverse landscapes that flew across my TV. When I started racing in Alberta this joy and wonder only grew, and as I started training and racing and exploring other provinces, states, and countries by bike, I concluded it is the best way to experience a place. The bicycle travels fast enough that you can cover great distances, but slow enough that you can see, hear, smell, taste, and feel the landscape, culture, and community in ways that are missed when flying or driving. I have been fortunate to have ridden in almost every province, each unique from the other, but I wanted to see what ties us all together and what makes us different. I wanted to know why and how these small towns exist; and how our cities have chosen to identify themselves. In short, I wanted to experience what it is to be Canadian and all the diversity that comes with it.
Sitting around one day dreaming about this great journey I thought "enough dreaming, set a date!" So I did, and in 2018 we spent 69 days riding about 150 km per day from Vancouver on the west coast to Sydney on the east coast. This is still not the entire country, there are another 2 provinces and 2 territories to explore, but if you haven't ridden alongside vibrant forests, vast cattle farms, the majestic Rocky Mountains, the imaginative and open prairies (one of my favourites), the expansive Great Lakes, historical towns in Quebec, and the diverse cultures of the eastern provinces then I suggest you take a bite and ride a section of this beautiful and awe inspiring country.
Below are some suggestions of itineraries, but we can help you put together a trip that encompasses your interests and abilities. Simply e-mail us, we'd love to hear from you!
