Slovenia
JUNE 3-10, 2023
The only country with "love" in it's name, Slovenia offers love at first sight. From brilliant turquoise rivers to lush green forests, from mirrored blue lakes to bright red caves, from majestic slate mountains to ever-changing green farmlands, the scenery in this lovely country is best captured on two wheels.
JUNE 3: ARRIVAL
Details:
You will be picked up at the Ljubljana airport and driven to the historic and picturesque centre of town where we will be staying for the next few nights. Our hotel offers a cozy and welcoming ambience with gathering spaces to socialize and get to know your riding mates for the next week. Hotel Cubo will be our home base for the next 4 nights. We will help assemble your bikes then venture on an easy spin along the Path of Remembrance and Comradeship. During WWII this path was secured with barbed wire fences to prevent communication between people of the resistance. It is now marked with historical plaques and information boards that depict the events that took place during this tumultuous time. |
JUNE 4: COUNTRY BEAUTY
Ride Description:
Begin to discover why there is Love in Slovenia as we meander past farms, local characters, and outdoor beauty. There are 3 loop-route options today that explore the lush countryside. Want to spend time exploring Ljubljana off the bike? Consider the eagle eye views from the Castle, a walk and shopping in the historic old town, a cruise of the Ljubljanica river, discover the National Gallery, the Museums of Natural History or Contemporary History, or maybe take a break at one of the many cafes along the river bank. |
JUNE 5: POSTOJNA CAVES
Ride Description:
The Postojna Caves may be one of the most impressive sites you will ever see underground! The tour begins with a train ride taking you dozens of kilometres in to the underbelly of this "Queen of the Underground" where you are met with awe and wonder with every foot step on the next part of the tour. The short route will have us ending at the caves and offering an opportunity to also tour the Predjama Castle, a medieval marvel built in the cliffs and caves with a Robin Hood type history.

JUNE 6: BLED
Ride Description:
Castles, castles and more castles may be the theme of this week and there is no more beautiful a place than Lake Bled. Nestled in the Julian Alps, this picturesque destination is surrounded by churches and castles reflecting off the still waters. We will enjoy a piece of the famous Bled Cream Cake before deciding to do some shopping or continue riding.

JUNE 7: BOVEC
Ride Description:
Load your suitcases in to the van as we ride from Ljubljana to Bovec today to stay at Hotel Soca for 2 nights. Our end destination is a mountain town surrounded by the peaks of the Julian Alps, forests and glacial lakes of Triglav National Park.
Our hotel has a pool, hot tub, and sauna in which to relax; or you can arrange for a massage as well. If you like, enjoy a cocktail post ride in the embrace of the surrounding mountains and clean fresh air. |
JUNE 8: MANGART AND VSIC or off the bike adventures
Ride Description:
Today we tackle the Mangart, a 20 km climb with breathtaking scenery. We descend the same way we went up and enjoy a flatter stretch that has us dipping a toe in Italy and through ski villages that will take us to the foot of the Vršič. The looming mountain views and cobbled corners are like nothing else in the world and a must for every cyclist's bucket list. The descent back to Bovec is parallel to the bright turquoise Soča River and WWI remnants. Every inch of this ride is beautiful.

Want to take a break from 2 wheeled adventures? This area is heaven for outdoor enthusiasts with options to raft, kayak, zipline, do some canyoning, or a combination of these thrills.
JUNE 9: WINERIES
Ride Description:
Today's ride will have us descend from the mountains in to the open arms of the vineyards. Bordering the famous Collio wine region of Italy, the hillsides are bathed in wineries that make up the Goriska Brda wine region of Slovenia. The Rebula grape makes up 25% of the varietals in this area and has called Slovenia home for over 750 years. Our ride will most likely end at a wine tasting and celebration of new friends and cycling feats from the past week. For those still looking for riding miles, they can skip the wine tasting and roll right in to Ljubljana where we will finish our week of cycling where we started, bringing everything around full circle. |
JUNE 10: DEPARTURE |
We will have our final goodbyes this morning at breakfast before people leave to return home or continue their journey. Transportation will be provided to the Ljubljana airport.
